Overview

• A red Dodge Charger struck a concrete barrier just after 8 p.m. on northbound South Post Oak Road near the entrance to Loop 610 North.
• Investigators say the car rode the barrier for about 100 feet as the front left tire detached before the vehicle caught fire.
• Officials believe metal scraping produced sparks that spread flames to the gas tank and interior, trapping the lone driver.
• Houston Fire Department crews extinguished the blaze, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
