Driver Dies After Rear-Ending Waukesha County Snowplow on I-94

State Patrol is investigating the cause, with officials urging drivers to give plows the required space.

Overview

  • The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Monday on westbound I-94 at Springdale Road and involved a county snowplow and an SUV.
  • Waukesha County said the plow’s warning lights were on and it was clearing the shoulder; the operator was uninjured and tried to aid the other driver.
  • The SUV driver was taken to a hospital and died from injuries, according to a State Patrol update.
  • Westbound lanes were closed for hours with diversions at Highway 18 and the Barker/Bluemound ramps, and traffic reopened shortly after 1 p.m.
  • State Patrol is working to determine why the SUV struck the plow and reminds drivers of the 200-foot clearance rule and the need to slow for plows.
