Driver Cited After Limo Bus Rollover on I-75 Injures 11 in Monroe County

State police report the driver lacked required credentials to operate the limo bus.

  • Michigan State Police say a 2008 Ford Super Duty limo bus left the southbound I-75 roadway near mile marker 16 on Oct. 30 and rolled several times, ejecting multiple occupants.
  • Fifteen people were aboard; eleven were hospitalized in Monroe and Toledo with one in critical condition, two serious, and eight with minor injuries.
  • The passengers were mostly Detroit teenagers in the city’s Community Violence Intervention Program traveling to Cedar Point.
  • Commercial vehicle officers found the 69-year-old driver lacked the proper CDL group designation and a valid DOT medical certificate, and the operator lacked valid passenger-transport authority.
  • The driver received citations for improper vehicle group designation, careless driving, and no medical certificate; alcohol and drugs are not suspected, the highway was closed about 3.5 hours, and investigators seek witnesses via the MSP Monroe Post at 734-242-3500.
