Driver Booked After BEST Bus Kills 81-Year-Old in Mulund

Police are reviewing witness statements alongside a BEST report that offers a differing account.

Overview

  • The victim, Usha Jamnadas Kherani, was struck around 10:20 a.m. near the Bileshwar Mahadev temple, roughly 200 metres from her Mulund West home.
  • Mulund police detained the bus driver and registered a case for rash and negligent driving under BNS Sections 106(1) and 281 and Motor Vehicles Act Section 184.
  • Police and media reports identify the driver as Aniket Balaram Ambre and the bus as MH 01 EM 3879, with the collision running over the victim’s left arm and leg before she was declared dead at Agrawal Hospital.
  • The complaint filed by her son, Dhiren Jamnadas Kherani, alleges the bus was driven at high speed and negligently, and a witness, Rashmin Kothari, alerted the family from the scene.
  • A preliminary BEST account cites an alternative sequence in which the pedestrian fell as the signal turned green and lists Shailesh Sudhakar Wagh as the driver and Aniket Ambre as the conductor, with internal and police probes ongoing.
