Driver Arrested on Suspicion of Murder After Alhambra Pursuit Crash Kills Officer and Passenger

A CHP-led probe with the L.A. County DA seeks to determine what prompted the chase.

  • The collision happened just after 3 a.m. Thursday at West Valley Boulevard and Edgewood Drive when an Alhambra patrol SUV and a suspected stolen Hyundai SUV crashed during a pursuit.
  • Officer Alec Sanders, 28, died at Los Angeles General Medical Center, and passenger Gabriela Moreno, 42, was ejected from the Hyundai and pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Another passenger from the Hyundai suffered major injuries, and the driver sustained moderate injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
