Driver Arrested After SUV Crashes Into Hinesville Bedroom, Injuring Sleeping Woman

An inspector declared the house uninhabitable after the crash damaged the main water line.

Overview

  • The collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 200 block of Glenn Bryant Road, according to Hinesville police.
  • The woman was taken to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, authorities said.
  • Police say the driver, identified as Jose Gomez, left the scene and was found parked in a nearby yard with debris from the home on the vehicle.
  • Officers reported the smell of alcohol, said Gomez refused a DUI test and allegedly threatened to shoot them, and later found no weapon before booking him into the Liberty County Jail on charges including DUI refusal, failure to maintain lane, striking a fixed object, and obstruction.
  • The crash damaged the home’s water system, displacing the family as neighbors called for stronger traffic enforcement in the area.
