Driver Acquitted of Dangerous Driving in Fatal M62 Collision

Shahid Ilyas was cleared after a jury concluded he was not responsible for the death of 12-year-old Callum Rycroft.

The incident occurred on the M62 in West Yorkshire when Callum Rycroft, left on the motorway by his intoxicated father, was struck by Ilyas's vehicle.
Prosecutors argued Ilyas drove dangerously after the collision, failing to stop immediately despite significant windscreen damage.
The jury was shown CCTV footage of the accident, which followed Callum's father overturning his car while driving drunk.
Callum's father, Matthew Rycroft, has already been sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter and related charges.
Ilyas, who has not driven since the incident due to trauma, still faces charges for failing to stop and report the accident, which are under review.
