Overview
- Maryland State Police say the crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday on southbound Branch Avenue near Moores Road in Brandywine.
- The trooper was outside a marked cruiser with emergency lights activated when a black Ford F-150 struck the rear of the cruiser, which then hit the trooper.
- The injured trooper was taken by ambulance to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center and was later released.
- Authorities identified the driver as Rayshaud Davon Shield, 32, of Upper Marlboro, who was arrested on suspected impaired driving and related traffic offenses.
- The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures, and troopers from the College Park Barrack are leading an ongoing investigation as Shield remains in local custody pending a court review.
