Driver, 74, Gets 4½ Years for Fatal Rugby Crash After Ignoring Medical Advice

Police say he ignored medical warnings, failing to notify the DVLA about being unfit to drive.

Overview

  • Alan Charles Parish was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on November 12 for causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.
  • He received four years and six months for the death of passenger Margeurite Thomas and a concurrent two years and three months for the serious injury to another driver.
  • The judge imposed a driving ban of more than seven years alongside the prison term.
  • Warwickshire Police said Parish had been told by doctors not to drive and to inform the DVLA, but he did not act on that advice.
  • The crash occurred on Ashlawn Road in Rugby in August 2024 after Parish suffered a medical episode, killing Ms Thomas and seriously injuring the other motorist.
