Drink Driver Jailed for Crashing Into Chequers Estate Gate

Matthew Wootten received a 32-month sentence after deliberately driving into the Prime Minister's residence while heavily intoxicated.

Wootten, 44, was nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit when he crashed into the 80-year-old Victory Gate at Chequers.
The incident occurred on June 25, 2024, when Rishi Sunak was Prime Minister, shortly before the general election.
Significant damage, totaling over £38,000, was caused to the historic gates and surrounding property.
Matthew Wootten pleaded guilty to charges including dangerous driving and driving over the alcohol limit.
He has been disqualified from driving for 40 months following his sentencing at Reading Crown Court.
