Overview

  • The Togo-flagged freighter lost power on November 7 and drifted in Toyama Bay about 50 kilometers northeast of Himi.
  • Japanese patrol vessels took the ship under tow Friday evening and delivered it to Fushiki-Toyama port in Toyama Prefecture.
  • The Russian vice-consul in Niigata said the crew felt well and required no assistance, and consular officials continue to monitor the case.
  • Authorities reported no damage to the hull, and the vessel had been en route from Vladivostok to Fushiki-Toyama with a displacement of roughly 2,200 tonnes.
  • The ship is expected to proceed to repairs following its safe arrival in port.
