DRI Seizes 42 Kg of Hydroponic Cannabis at Mumbai Airport, Arrests Two From Bangkok Flight

Investigators are scrutinizing call records and travel histories to identify the network behind the consignment.

Overview

  • DRI Mumbai said it intercepted two arriving passengers at CSMIA and recovered 42.34 kg of hydroponic cannabis concealed in 21 food packets containing noodles and biscuits.
  • Field-kit testing returned positive for cannabis and the consignment was seized under the NDPS Act, with a case registered and both suspects taken into custody.
  • The operation followed specific intelligence received on Sunday, with officers laying a trap inside the airport before matching descriptions and searching the baggage.
  • DRI cited an earlier October 31 seizure of 4.7 kg of cocaine worth Rs 47 crore, saying the back-to-back actions took the value of drugs intercepted in three days to more than Rs 90 crore.
  • In a separate development reported by Mumbai Airport Customs, an Andheri resident named Arfat Shaikh was arrested after officials said they found 1,144 grams of hydroponic cannabis hidden in shampoo bottles and snack containers, with inquiries at a preliminary stage.
