Overview
- DRI’s Mumbai Zonal Unit intercepted two passengers arriving from Bangkok and recovered 42.34 kg of hydroponic weed concealed in 21 food packets labeled as noodles and biscuits, with both suspects arrested under the NDPS Act.
- Mumbai Customs Zone III reported five cases between October 31 and November 3 at CSMIA, seizing over 13 kg of hydroponic weed hidden in trolley bags, chocolate and chips packets, and shampoo bottles.
- In a separate action at Cochin International Airport, the Customs Air Intelligence Unit seized 6,446 grams of suspected hybrid ganja from Abdul Samad, who flew in from Bangkok via Vietnam, and opened a probe into the supply chain.
- Officials said the latest interceptions form part of the DRI’s Operation Weed Out, which has yielded 292.9 kg of hydroponic weed seized across airports nationwide to date.
- Enforcement teams said they are intensifying passenger profiling and adapting to evolving concealment methods while pursuing NDPS and Customs cases to identify suppliers, handlers, and intended recipients.
