DRI Seizes 39.2 Kg Hydroponic Weed in Mumbai After Kolkata Bust Nets Mastermind

Officials link the airport interceptions to an intelligence-led probe into a Bangkok-to-India trafficking network.

Overview

  • Mumbai’s DRI unit intercepted two Indian passengers arriving from Bangkok and recovered 39.2 kg of hydroponic cannabis from their checked baggage, then arrested an alleged receiver.
  • The Mumbai seizure involved 19.6 kg from each passenger and all three accused were booked under the NDPS Act as investigators pursue accomplices.
  • Days earlier in Kolkata, DRI arrested 10 people including the alleged mastermind and seized 32.466 kg of cannabis, 22.027 kg of hydroponic weed and 345 grams of cocaine along with cash.
  • Kolkata officers conducted coordinated searches at NSCBI Airport and two Bijoygarh residences, nabbing carriers returning from Bangkok, retail distributors and a member who arranged suppliers abroad.
  • Authorities value the Kolkata haul at about Rs 26 crore and say both actions are part of a broader crackdown, with further investigations underway to map suppliers, handlers and financial links.
