DRI Seizes 1.7 Kg of Cocaine From Tanzanian Passenger at Mumbai Airport

A tip-off led to a targeted stop that uncovered cocaine concealed in baggage, including ingested capsules.

Overview

  • The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted the woman on arrival from Entebbe, Uganda, at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
  • Officers recovered two food packets, a plastic container, a pouch of pellets containing white powder, and two capsules ingested by the passenger.
  • Field tests using NDPS kits returned positive for cocaine, confirming a total seizure of 1,718 grams valued at about Rs 17.18 crore.
  • The contraband was seized under the NDPS Act, the passenger was arrested, and she has been remanded to judicial custody.
  • DRI officials framed the case as part of sustained airport interdictions, noting a separate seizure about 10 days earlier of 42.34 kg of hydroponic cannabis from Bangkok arrivals.
