DRI Dismantles Remote Mephedrone Lab in Maharashtra, Seizes 128 Kg

The bust forms part of an intelligence-led crackdown that DRI says has shuttered five clandestine factories this year.

Overview

  • Operation Hinterland Brew was carried out on December 7 and 8 in a secluded area near Karanja (Ghadge), about 60 km from Wardha.
  • Officers seized 128 kg of mephedrone valued at roughly ₹192 crore along with 245 kg of precursor chemicals.
  • A full processing setup was recovered, including makeshift reactors and vessels used to manufacture the synthetic drug.
  • Three suspects were arrested, including an alleged mastermind who financed and oversaw the chemistry, with charges under the NDPS Act, 1985.
  • The site was a temporary modular structure concealed in dense shrubland, and DRI says further investigation is underway.
