Overview

  • Operation WeedOut by the DRI between August 19 and 21 led to the seizure of 72.024 kg of hydroponic weed and ₹1.02 crore, with an associate mastermind and five passengers arrested.
  • Officers recovered 29.88 kg at Bengaluru’s KSR station from Rajdhani passengers, 24.186 kg at Bhopal Junction from another Rajdhani leg, and 17.958 kg from a traveller traced to a Bengaluru hotel after arriving from Thailand.
  • The DRI said the syndicate targeted college dropouts and unemployed youth via social media and used paid trips to Thailand, with couriers transiting by flights and long‑distance trains.
  • Separately in Telangana, excise enforcement seized about 106 kg of ganja along with six firearms, 40 live rounds and 12 empty magazines, arresting three suspects as one accused remained absconding; officials said the gang sourced ganja from Odisha and procured weapons in Madhya Pradesh for trafficking to Kerala.
  • Rail and state task forces reported a parallel train‑based racket in Hyderabad, arresting four men from Odisha with 91 kg of marijuana bound for Pune and noting 147 arrests and over 2,327 kg seized in 116 railway cases since 2024.
