Dresden Sets Demolition for Rankestraße Bridge Next Week, Plans B97 Replacement for 2027–2029

Officials cite corrosion risks linked to Hennigsdorfer prestressing steel used in the collapsed Carolabrücke.

Overview

  • The disused Werksbahnbrücke Rankestraße in Kaditz will be demolished from 29 September to about 21 November 2025.
  • Traffic will be routed via Meißnerstraße, Forststraße and Seestraße, with a full closure from 13 to 17 October and a one-sided sidewalk shutdown.
  • The Rankestraße teardown is budgeted at roughly €200,000, including €160,000 in state funds with the remainder covered by the city.
  • At the Industriegelände on the B97, the 1979 bridge built with Hennigsdorfer prestressing steel is under sensor monitoring and limited to one lane per direction due to stress‑corrosion risk.
  • The city plans to start demolition there in June 2027 and open a steel‑composite replacement by March 2029 for €17.2 million, with tram lines 7 and 8 closing during works and coordination underway with Deutsche Bahn; a council vote is slated for November.
