Overview

  • After two years of work the Bautzner Straße reopened on June 27 with traffic flowing in both directions and tram line 11 running to Bühlau following reconstruction of the Prießnitz bridge, renewed tracks and a barrier-free stop at the Diakonissenkrankenhaus.
  • The project cost around €10 million and required an expensive bus replacement service through Holzhofgasse, which added roughly €7 million in extra expenses for DVB.
  • Cars and trams will now share a single lane on the renovated street with new separate bike paths lining one side, a configuration that DVB calls an experiment due to potential traffic delays.
  • City councillors Martin Schulte-Wissermann, Michael Hauck and Anja Stephan are pushing to “sanieren im Bestand” on Königsbrücker Straße, opposing plans to widen the road into a broad arterial corridor.
  • Their proposal to renovate Königsbrücker Straße within its current footprint is projected to save nearly €60 million compared with the original €98 million expansion and to protect over 100 mature trees.
