Officers stopped a car arriving from the Czech Republic at a rest area on the Prague–Dresden route and found 340 kilograms of pyrotechnics. The occupants were a 51-year-old Dutch man and his 24-year-old son who said they were transporting food between Berlin and Prague and denied buying fireworks in the Czech Republic. Seized items included a large Category 3 firework battery, a carton of so-called Kugelbomben, and 20 cartons of Blitzknaller. Customs secured the cargo and initiated proceedings for suspected violations of Germany’s explosives law. German rules require CE marking for commercially sold fireworks, and higher categories such as F3 and F4 require a special permit, with illegal import punishable if markings are missing or falsified.
