Dresden Bakers Complete Giant Stollen for Stollenfest Ahead of Dec. 6 Procession

Proceeds from the public cutting will support regional projects.

Overview

  • The XXL-Striezel measures about 2.80 meters by 1.40 meters and is already mounted on a carriage.
  • More than 3,300 pieces were assembled with generous butter, sugar and powdered sugar to create the pastry.
  • A team of 35 bakers and numerous helpers took roughly seven hours to put the stollen together, according to the Schutzverband Dresdner Stollen.
  • The giant loaf will be paraded through Dresden on December 6 before being cut at the Striezelmarkt for public tasting.
  • Organizers note the festival began in 1994 and has produced 91,918 kilograms of stollen to date, underscoring the tradition’s scale.
