Overview

  • DRDO conducted the maiden flight tests at around 12:30 pm on August 23 off the Odisha coast, with the success announced on August 24.
  • QRSAM, VSHORADS and a high‑energy laser simultaneously engaged and destroyed two fixed‑wing UAVs and a multi‑copter at different ranges and altitudes.
  • Integrated operations were managed by a Centralised Command and Control Centre developed by DRDL, with VSHORADS from RCI and the laser system developed by CHESS.
  • Range instruments at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur captured data confirming flawless performance across missiles, detection, command and control, communications and radars.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh welcomed the result, and DRDO leadership described the trial as a validated lower‑range step toward broader operationalisation under Mission Sudarshan Chakra.
