DRDO Conducts Successful Salvo Test of Two Pralay Missiles Off Odisha Coast

Officials say the back-to-back success demonstrates reliability, signaling near-readiness for induction.

Overview

  • Two missiles were launched in quick succession from the same launcher around 10:30 am from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur during user evaluation trials.
  • Tracking sensors at ITR confirmed both flights followed intended trajectories, and shipborne telemetry validated terminal events, with all mission objectives met.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the salvo established the missile’s reliability, and DRDO chief Samir V. Kamat said the result indicates imminent induction readiness.
  • Pralay is an indigenous solid-propellant, quasi-ballistic surface-to-surface missile with a 150–500 km range and a 500–1,000 kg conventional payload capacity.
  • Research Centre Imarat and multiple DRDO labs developed the system, Bharat Dynamics and Bharat Electronics integrated the test units, and Army and Air Force representatives witnessed the trial.
