India successfully tests UAV-launched precision guided missile ULPGM-V3 in Andhra Pradesh

Overview

  • During July 25 trials at the National Open Area Range in Kurnool, the ULPGM-V3 confirmed its imaging-infrared seeker, dual-thrust solid propulsion, two-way datalink and modular warhead compatibility.
  • Weighing 12.5 kg, the fire-and-forget missile achieved a daytime range of 4 km and a nighttime range of 2.5 km against static and moving targets.
  • The Development-cum-Production Partner model united DRDO with Adani Defence, Bharat Dynamics and about 30 MSMEs and start-ups to develop and produce the advanced variant.
  • The missile was launched from a UAV built by Newspace Research Technologies and tested at a strategic DRDO facility that also hosts high-energy laser and counter-drone experiments.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the trials as a major boost to India’s defence capabilities and proof that domestic industry can absorb and deliver critical defence technologies.
