Bean, a chihuahua, made a dramatic escape on the Staten Island Expressway, with the incident caught on camera and going viral.
Several motorists, including Katie Marie and Kaitlyn McGinley, stopped their vehicles and attempted to rescue Bean.
The rescue effort involved trying to keep Bean in the HOV lane to tire him out, with over 20 vehicles participating.
McGinley was eventually able to catch Bean and get him inside her vehicle.
Bean's owner, Tee Richardson, revealed that the dog had run away after being scared by a barking pit bull, but is now home and safe.
