Drake, Jennifer Lopez, and Other Prominent Artists Sign Open Letter Urging Biden and Congress for Israel-Hamas Ceasefire

Celebrities demand an end to violence and facilitated aid as over 8,000 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis are killed in the weeks-long conflict, with suspected civilian hostages still in captivity.

  • Prominent artists, including Drake, Jennifer Lopez, and Adam Lambert have signed an open letter, named "Artists4Ceasefire", calling on U.S. President Joe Biden and Congress to push for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The letter was originally signed by Michael Stipe, Dua Lipa, Caroline Polachek, Killer Mike, and others, and was sent to Biden and Congress last week.
  • The open letter stresses the importance of valuing all lives in the conflict-ridden region, and cites the alarming death toll of over 5,000 people within a week and a half, which the signatories deem as catastrophic.
  • The letter condemns the killing of both Palestinian and Israeli civilians and also draws attention to the fact that half of Gaza's two million residents are children, and many of them are refugees or their descendants who have been forced to flee their homes. It calls for the facilitation of humanitarian aid to such individuals.
  • The conflict, which began on October 7, resulted in thousands of Hamas soldiers crossing the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip, killing more than 1,400 Israeli civilians, and holding over 200 individuals hostage, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
  • Israel's retaliation to the aforementioned attacks has led to hundreds of strikes and ground incursions into Gaza, reportedly leading to more than 8,000 Palestinian deaths. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently announced the initiation of a "second stage" of the war, focused on ground operations.
