Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Breaks Records in Japan with Massive Launch Sales

Square Enix's remake becomes Japan's best-selling game of 2024 after selling over 820,000 copies in its first week.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake sold 641,195 copies on Nintendo Switch and 180,575 on PlayStation 5 in its debut week, totaling 821,770 physical units sold in Japan.
The game outperformed other recent releases, including Super Mario Party Jamboree and Mario & Luigi: Brothership, in physical sales on the Switch.
It is now the best-selling game of 2024 in Japan, surpassing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which sold 339,168 units earlier this year.
The remake achieved the biggest first-week launch in Japan since The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and is Square Enix's most successful launch in Japan since Dragon Quest XI in 2017.
Digital sales data has not been disclosed, but reports suggest the game may surpass 1 million total sales once digital purchases are included.
