Overview
- Grand Canyon will reopen Cape Royal Road and a section of Highway 67 to the W1 road between sunrise and sunset, with Fire Point and Swamp Ridge as the only overnight areas, plus the Cape Royal, Cliff Spring, Cape Final and Roosevelt Point trails and a short Ken Patrick Trail segment.
- Kaibab National Forest will restore public access to just over 25,000 additional acres north of the park, bringing access to nearly 90% of the North Kaibab Ranger District, including Arizona Trail Passage 40 and East Rim and Marble viewpoints.
- High‑hazard areas remain closed for now, including the North Kaibab Trail, Saddle Mountain Wilderness and much of House Rock Valley due to flooding risk, falling trees and unstable terrain.
- Reopened zones have no power, running water, cell service, fuel or visitor services, and emergency response will be limited as crews continue suppression‑repair work and heavy equipment moves through the area.
- The lightning‑sparked fire burned about 145,000 acres and destroyed the Grand Canyon Lodge, and park officials plan staged reopenings through fall with a tentative North Rim season ending Nov. 30, weather permitting.
