• Dr Bhattacharyya died on July 23 at his Nalbari residence at age 83 after a prolonged illness.
• Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah attended the funeral and confirmed that full state honours were accorded at the cremation.
• The Nalbari Sahitya Sabha and its 12 regional branches flew flags at half-mast as a mark of mourning.
• Over his six-decade career he authored more than 100 works across poetry, fiction, essays and drama and received titles including “Sahityacharya” along with Nalbari Ratna, Ramdhenu and Enajori awards.
• He mentored 15 PhD scholars and helped establish several junior colleges, shaping Assam’s academic and literary infrastructure.
