Overview

• On June 14, parents of DPS Dwarka students staged a peaceful demonstration at Jantar Mantar to decry alleged harassment, discrimination and unauthorized fee increases by school management.
• The protest drew support from multiple parent associations demanding immediate government intervention and enforcement of education department fee guidelines.
• A Delhi High Court bench ordered parents to deposit half of the increased fee component for the 2025-26 academic year and mandated prior notice before disciplinary action under Rule 35.
• Earlier orders debarring 31 students were withdrawn and those pupils were reinstated, and the court has now deferred its final ruling on the wider fee dispute until August 28.
• In response to these disputes, the Delhi government has expedited the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025 to cap private school charges and establish oversight committees.
