Dozens Killed in Separate Road Crashes Across India Over Three Days

Authorities cite overspeeding, loss of control, fog or treacherous terrain as early factors, with rescues and investigations still underway.

Overview

  • In Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, a private bus plunged into a deep gorge near Haripurdhar, with reports varying between eight and nine deaths and around 40 injuries as rescue efforts continued.
  • In Indore, three people including Prerna Bachchan, daughter of former Madhya Pradesh home minister Bala Bachchan, died when their car struck a truck on the Tejaji Nagar bypass, and police have registered a case and are examining the truck driver’s role.
  • Near Tumakuru in Karnataka, four pilgrims returning from Sabarimala were killed and seven injured after their vehicle crashed into a stationary truck on the outskirts of the city.
  • Outside Hyderabad, four college students were killed and one injured in a high-speed crash near Mirzaguda, where police said the car hit a tree and preliminary findings point to overspeeding.
  • Other incidents during Jan 7–9 included a head-on collision that killed four in Nashik, an overturn that killed three in Jalgaon, a Delhi SUV–taxi crash that killed two, and newly circulated CCTV of a Srikakulam wreck that showed the sequence leading to a family-of-three’s deaths.
