Overview

  • On June 2, Israeli forces opened fire near a Rafah food distribution point, killing three Palestinians and injuring 35 more as they waited for aid.
  • The Gaza Health Ministry reported that on June 1 at least 31 people were shot dead and over 100 were wounded at a nearby foundation-managed food site, bringing the week’s toll at these points to 39 dead and more than 220 injured.
  • The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, supported by the US and Israel, maintains that its aid deliveries proceeded without incident and accuses Hamas of fabricating casualty figures.
  • Israel’s military says it has found no evidence of its troops firing inside the distribution centers and has opened an inquiry even as its ground offensive in Gaza intensifies under orders from Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
  • More than 54,400 Palestinians have been killed and 124,100 injured since October 2023 as fighting escalates and shortages of food, water, and medicine in Gaza deepen.
