Downton Abbey 3 to Feature Tribute to Maggie Smith

The upcoming film will honor the late actress and her character, adding emotional depth to the story.

Dame Maggie Smith, who passed away in September 2024 at age 89, will be honored in the third Downton Abbey film, set for release on September 12, 2025.
Executive producer Gareth Neame confirmed that the tribute will reflect both the loss of Smith and her iconic character, Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham.
The tribute was planned before Smith's passing, but her death has added greater poignancy and authenticity to the actors' performances in mourning the family matriarch.
Smith, celebrated for her sharp wit and formidable talent, earned numerous accolades for her role in Downton Abbey, including three Emmys and a Golden Globe.
The film will feature returning cast members, including Hugh Bonneville and Michelle Dockery, alongside new additions such as Paul Giamatti and Joely Richardson.
