Overview

  • Download initially adhered to EHRC guidance based on a UK Supreme Court ruling that barred trans women from women’s facilities and trans men from men’s facilities.
  • Musicians including NOAHFINNCE, Pinkshift and Witch Fever publicly condemned the policy on May 27 as unsafe and discriminatory for transgender concertgoers.
  • In a May 28 statement to NME, festival director Andy Copping confirmed that the majority of on-site toilets will be gender-neutral to ensure inclusivity.
  • Over 1,000 cultural figures had signed an open letter arguing the Supreme Court decision failed to protect trans, non-binary and intersex people from discrimination.
  • This year’s Download Festival runs June 13–15 at Donington Park, Leicestershire, with headliners Green Day, Sleep Token and KoRn.
