Overview

• Christina Formella, 30, was arraigned June 17 in DuPage County Circuit Court on 55 counts, including aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, indecent solicitation of a child and grooming.
• She pleaded not guilty and remains free under strict pretrial supervision that includes electronic device monitoring, GPS tracking, a restriction on contact with minors and a travel ban.
• Prosecutors presented hundreds of text messages corroborating at least 45 sexual encounters with the student, which allegedly began when he was 14 and continued for nearly two years at the high school and at her home.
• Judge Mia McPherson denied a request to detain Formella under the SAFE-T Act, ruling that enhanced supervisory conditions could address concerns about the victim’s safety.
• If convicted, Formella faces up to 60 years in prison, prosecutors say.
