Overview
- Police say the shooting happened around 3:30–3:34 p.m. in the South Terminal’s upper-level baggage claim near an escalator.
- APD reports Smith intentionally shot himself in the upper torso before a bystander disarmed him and officers secured the handgun.
- He was transported to a hospital alert, conscious and breathing, and was in stable condition Sunday evening.
- Smith, identified as a convicted felon, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and reckless conduct.
- He will be taken into custody at the Clayton County Jail after his release from the hospital, and police say the motive remains under investigation.
