Doug Emhoff to Teach at USC Gould School of Law Starting July

He said he aims to instill core legal principles in students at a time of heightened challenges for the legal community

Emhoff will join the USC Gould School of Law faculty on July 1, 2025, returning to his alma mater where he earned a law degree in 1990.
He said the move stems from a difficult moment for the legal community and offers an opportunity to teach students to uphold the rule of law and defend civil rights.
Emhoff will remain a partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher despite his objections to its $100 million pro bono agreement with President Trump’s administration.
He taught at Georgetown University Law Center while Kamala Harris served as vice president and campaigned for the presidency in 2024.
His appointment comes as Harris is considering a bid for California governor, with her decision expected by the end of summer.
