Double-Decker Bus Roof Torn Off in Kilmarnock Bridge Crash

Eight people were hospitalized after a Stagecoach bus struck a low railway bridge, with no reports of serious injuries.

The crash occurred on Culzean Crescent in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, shortly before 2 PM on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
Emergency services, including one ambulance and three special operations response teams, transported eight passengers to University Hospital Crosshouse.
The roof of the double-decker bus was torn off after it struck a railway bridge marked for vehicles under 8ft 3in (2.5m) in height.
Most passengers on the top deck were teenagers, with one describing the collision as 'terrifying' and leaving passengers covered in glass.
Police Scotland and Stagecoach West Scotland have launched investigations, confirming no structural damage to the bridge and that the road reopened later that evening.
