Overview
- A First Bus double-decker veered into an unoccupied, renovated house on West Road in Ormesby St Margaret after turning from Cromer Road on Thursday, with no reported injuries.
- Neighbours said the impact sounded like an explosion and witnesses helped evacuate around seven or eight people who had been on the bus.
- Norfolk Police and Norfolk Fire and Rescue secured the scene and demolition contractor E. E Green & Sons dismantled large parts of the property to make the area safe before vehicle recovery.
- On Friday a staged recovery used a generator to restart the bus so crew could reverse it onto Filby Lane and tow it away; the vehicle sustained heavy damage and is expected to be scrapped.
- First Bus has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the collision and utilities teams are surveying electricity supply while West Road remains closed for further demolition and clean-up.
