A citizen tip about a handed-in federal police badge triggered the probe that identified the 50-year-old suspect.

Overview

  • A search warrant at the Double Bay apartment uncovered allegedly fraudulent badges and IDs for Australian police and multiple US agencies plus AFP-branded hats and shirts.
  • Officers seized four replica firearms, 11 gel blasters, model grenades, steroids and about 14 grams of cocaine.
  • The suspect, identified as Jaime Charles Farrelly, was charged with impersonating a Commonwealth public official, possessing prohibited firearms and supplying a prohibited drug.
  • He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in Parramatta court.
  • AFP Detective Superintendent Peter Fogarty said falsely posing as a law enforcement or Commonwealth official poses a genuine danger to public safety.
