Overview

  • The Department of Transportation granted final approval for the standalone Blue Sky interline partnership, clearing a major regulatory hurdle.
  • Starting this fall, MileagePlus and TrueBlue members will earn and redeem miles across both networks with shared elite perks such as priority boarding and complimentary checked bags.
  • Under a net-neutral deal, JetBlue will transfer up to seven daily round-trip JFK slots to United in early 2027 and the carriers will swap eight Newark Liberty flight timings.
  • Spirit Airlines had urged regulators to block the collaboration as anticompetitive, but Blue Sky excludes revenue sharing and joint scheduling that derailed prior alliance efforts.
  • JetBlue expects the partnership to generate at least $50 million in incremental operating profit while both airlines maintain separate operations.
