• Reinhold Lunow announced he will pass on the presidency in November and will not seek another term.
• Hans-Joachim Watzke is now positioned to run unopposed for the presidency at the members’ meeting.
• Lunow said he withdrew after Watzke promised to uphold active member involvement, fan concerns and the BVB Grundwertekodex.
• The election committee must still formally propose a candidate, and the members’ vote is expected in November, traditionally on November 23.
• Watzke plans to leave the BVB CEO role in autumn 2025 and is a leading figure in German and European football through his posts with the DFL, DFB and UEFA.
