DoorDash Driver Arrested After Doorbell Video Shows Spray on Indiana Order

The 29-year-old is jailed in Kentucky pending extradition on felony battery and product-tampering counts.

Overview

  • The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says Kourtney Stevenson, 29, was arrested Dec. 12 after an investigation into a Dec. 7 delivery that left an Evansville couple vomiting with burning in their mouths, noses, throats and stomachs.
  • Doorbell footage reviewed by deputies appears to show the driver placing the food, taking a photo, then spraying a substance toward the order from a small aerosol can on her keychain.
  • Detectives subpoenaed DoorDash records to identify Stevenson, arranged an interview she later canceled, and then obtained an arrest warrant as McCracken County, Kentucky, authorities took her into custody.
  • Stevenson told investigators she used pepper spray to target a spider, a claim deputies questioned given an overnight low near 35°F that they said makes outdoor spider activity unlikely.
  • DoorDash permanently removed Stevenson’s access to the platform and said it is cooperating with law enforcement; she faces two counts of battery resulting in moderate injury and two counts of consumer product tampering.
