The funeral will include public viewings in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., with Carter lying in state at the U.S. Capitol's Rotunda for two days before the final service.
President Joe Biden, who Carter requested to deliver the eulogy, has declared January 9 a National Day of Mourning to honor the 39th president's legacy.
Carter's remains will return to Plains, Georgia, for a private burial, accompanied by a Navy flyover in recognition of his military service.
