Don Davis Files for Reelection in Redrawn NC-1 as GOP Field Grows

The redrawn, more conservative district sets up a competitive 2026 race with a crowded Republican field.

Overview

  • Davis submitted his reelection paperwork on Monday and is, so far, the lone Democrat seeking the seat.
  • Retired Army Col. Laurie Buckhout announced Wednesday she is entering the Republican primary, joining Bobby Hanig, Asa Buck, Eric Rouse and Ashley-Nicole Russell.
  • Libertarian Tom Bailey also filed to run, adding to a busy ballot in a district that has repeatedly seen boundary changes.
  • A Republican-led 2024 map shifted NC-1 right by moving Beaufort, Hyde, Dare, Craven, Pamlico and Carteret into the district and shifting Wilson, Wayne, Greene and Lenoir out.
  • Davis highlights bipartisan work and his push to curb mid-decade redistricting, and his latest FEC report shows more than $1.5 million cash on hand.
