Domestic Violence Cases in France Rise by 10% in 2023

The number of domestic violence victims in France has doubled since 2016, with 271,000 cases recorded in 2023.
A majority of the victims, 85%, are women, while 86% of the perpetrators are men, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
Physical violence accounts for 64% of the cases, with verbal or psychological abuse making up 32%, including harassment and threats.
Sexual violence was reported by 4% of the victims, highlighting the diverse forms of domestic abuse.
Regions such as Pas-de-Calais, La Réunion, and Seine-Saint-Denis have the highest rates of reported domestic violence cases.
