Domestic Carriers Fly 1.36 Crore Passengers in June as Cancellations Stay Below 1%

DGCA data shows a 3% rise from May with carriers paying more than Rs 3.4 crore in passenger compensation for disruptions.

  • Indian airlines carried 1.36 crore domestic travelers in June, marking a 3% month-on-month increase and a 7.34% year-on-year gain in the first half of 2025.
  • IndiGo’s market share slipped to 64.5% while Air India Group climbed to 27.1%; Akasa Air held at 5.3% and SpiceJet declined to 1.9%.
  • The overall cancellation rate remained at 0.93%, with technical faults accounting for 37% of cancelled flights, operational issues 25% and weather 22.4%.
  • More than 1.20 lakh passengers faced delays, 33,333 were affected by cancellations and 1,022 were denied boarding, and airlines spent over Rs 3.4 crore on facilitation and compensation.
  • The DGCA this week issued four show-cause notices to Air India over violations of flight duty periods, crew rest requirements and other operational norms.
