Dolton Completes $375,000 Purchase of Pope Leo XIV’s Childhood Home

A steering committee will guide the building’s restoration in cooperation with the Chicago Archdiocese to open it as a public landmark.

A sign with a painting and name of Pope Leo XIV is posted on the front lawn of his childhood home at 212 East 141st Place, July 2, 2025, in Dolton. A roofing company renovated the home's roof shingles and placed the sign on the lawn the previous day, according to a Dolton police officer who was posted in front of the structure. (John J.
