Overview
- The rate surveys published on October 27–28 found that a 30-day USD time deposit of $1,500 would earn less than $2 at the best banks and almost nothing at others.
- Bank-by-bank simulations showed BBVA, Banco Galicia and Banco Nación with a 1.25% nominal annual rate that prorates to roughly $1.5–$1.64 for $1,500 over 30 days and Santander at 0.05% that yields only about $0.06.
- The channel used to open a deposit matters because some banks apply different rates for home banking and branch operations, for example Banco Nación’s 1.25% online rate versus 0.75% in branch.
- In pesos, several digital wallets and remunerated accounts reported higher annualized rates in October, with Brubank at about 24%, Banco Bica at 22% and Cocos Pay near 21%, though many of these offers include caps on the remunerated balance or activity conditions.
- Savers face trade-offs: peso accounts often pay more and allow daily liquidity, but they can change rates, impose balance limits, and some instruments such as mutual funds do not enjoy the same deposit insurance as bank time deposits.
