Overview
- Hisense began rolling out a firmware update on Thursday that makes its 2026 UX, UR9, UR8 and U7 series the first consumer TVs to receive Dolby Vision 2 Max.
- The update is available on sets running Google TV or VIDAA and will reach more announced Hisense models over the coming weeks with Dolby expecting most updates by the end of August and completion by the end of September.
- Dolby Vision 2 uses a two-tier model: a standard tier that upgrades the core image engine and adds an intensity slider plus scene-aware tone mapping, and a Max tier that adds Authentic Motion for creator-set motion smoothing and Light Sense 2 for ambient-light tuning.
- Full Dolby Vision 2 functionality requires specific silicon, currently the MediaTek Pentonic 800, so older Dolby Vision TVs will play DV2 streams but ignore the extra metadata that drives new features.
- Content rollout is limited now to early adopters such as Peacock, Canal+ and iQiyi, and wider availability will depend on studios adopting new post-production metadata workflows and on whether manufacturers favor Dolby Vision 2 or the royalty-free HDR10+ Advanced, which could slow or split market adoption.
